Books for Children... and Mom and Dad too!

We have a wonderful selection of titles for kids and for their parents too. We have a range of titles on gay and lesbian parenting and up-to-date guides to pregnancy.

Sympatico High Speed Internet is available
to our patrons.

Becoming a Member
To become a member, you will need a piece of identification with your current address on it. A driver's license is perfect, but if you do not drive you can bring in an envelope with your name and current address along with a piece of ID with your picture on it.

You may borrow up to 5 books, for 3 weeks (and renew any or all of your items up to 3 times unless there is a "reserve" placed on a title by another borrower). Video/DVD titles are 7 day loans.

Identify yourself to the volunteer librarian whenever you want to borrow materials. There is flexibility when you need a couple more book titles for a project or a public/class presentation. PTS has several brochures and pamphlets freely available for your use. Just ask our friendly Library staff for details.

Thinking about volunteering?
Since the Kelly McGinnis Library is a volunteer operated lending library we would love it if you would consider becoming a volunteer and help us serve the community. (Our goal is to be open every evening and every noon hour Monday through Friday).

New volunteers should visit during any regular shift and try us on for size. Not only do you get to meet new and interesting people, you can pickup new skills.

Returning books...
is easy! There is a 'Book return slot' in the main door to Suite 301. Our building is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. until 8:15 p.m.

You may also return books to After Stonewall at 370 Bank St. (near Gilmour, 2 blocks south of Somerset St. West) and mother tongue books/Femmes de parole at 1067 Bank St. (near Sunnyside). Note that any overdue fines may not be left with the bookstores. They have agreed to care for the books only.

What if your books are overdue...
The "fine" for overdue materials is $0.10 per title per day. Remember you can return books to either of Ottawa's lesbian and gay bookstores any day of the week. Persons with disability may apply for a "fines-free" library card which will exempt them for overdue fines.
