Volunteer Opportunities

Bibliothèque Kelly McGinnis Library

Volunteers are needed so that the library can be open more hours. We are looking for volunteers to fill some hours during the daytime and to pair up with our evening volunteers. Retirees a plus!

Pink Triangle Youth

Are you looking to develop your leadership potential? Earn some volunteer hours before High School graduation? Contribute to the youth group? Work as part of a fun and dynamic team? If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then consider becoming a PTY Team Leader!

Team leaders work directly under the supervision of the PTY coordinators, assisting them in the programming, logistics, planning and presentation of workshops, activities and discussions. These leaders may also be tasked to co-facilitate and/or lead discussion groups in small-group settings. Team leaders play an important role in helping orientate new clients to PTY. They ideally are the big brothers and big sisters of PTY. Team leaders must be at least 16 years of age and not older than 25; and have attended PTY regularly for at least 6 months prior to being selected for the position.

Individuals are selected based on their maturity, their ability to lead, a good attitude/cheerful disposition, and a willingness to work as part of a team. In addition, youth who are interested in developing their leadership potential or wish to assume some responsibilities in the collective ownership of PTY are strongly encouraged to apply. This is a volunteer position requiring a commitment of 3 hours every Wednesday from 6:30 to 9:30pm.

Applications for 2006/2007 Team Leader positions are available from our offices. Applicants must submit a 1-2 page cover letter explaining their interest and involvement with queer youth issues and why they are a good candidate for the PTY Leadership Team. The deadline for applications is September 6, 2006.

Bisexual Women’s Group

We are currently seeking a volunteer to facilitate the group in September 2006. Group facilitators are required to commit to a six-month term with their respective groups; and to attend a quarterly Program Management Committee where other group facilitators meet.

Queer Kaleidoscopes

Queer Kaleidoscopes is a group that celebrates the diversities among ethnic minorities and GLBTTQ persons of colour. We are seeking a co-facilitator for the group in the Fall of 2006. Group facilitators are required to commit to a six-month term with their respective groups; and to attend a quarterly Program Management Committee where other group facilitators meet.

PTS information Table

PTS often has an information table at various events such as the Campus Pride Weeks at Carleton University and the University of Ottawa; and Lesbian and Gay Expo (LGX); Ottawa Pride; and many other community events. Volunteering to sit at a table for a few hours at a time is a great opportunity to get to know your community as well as represent it.
